Andrew Thompson calls the United Methodist Church to stop serving the world and start serving Christ.
His argument is shaped by Scott Kisker’s excellent little book Mainline or Methodist?
If [Kisker is] right—and I happen to think he is—then the future of the UMC must be a Wesleyan future. And that will require us to do more than cite John Wesley as our beloved founding father. It will require us to take Wesley’s teachings seriously, in our preaching and our practice of the faith. Whether we have the stomach for such an undertaking remains to be seen.
