John Ortberg Advent sermon

2009 January 3
by John Meunier

I listened to John Ortberg’s Dec. 21 sermon, which was about the Good Samaritan.

I’m always impressed by several things when I listen to Ortberg’s sermons.

1) His folding together of NT and OT culture and terms with contemporary issues, terms, and language.

2) His effort to help people see and feel the story as well as hear it.

3) His use of humor and great rapport with the congregation.

4) His intelligence and intelligent blending of scholarly insight into an easy-to-follow message.
